NDIS Information
New to the NDIS or unsure how it all works? This page explains the basics and answers the most common questions we hear.
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the Australian Government's program to support people with a permanent and significant disability. It provides funding directly to eligible participants to purchase the supports and services they need.
The NDIS is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). It's designed around the principle that every person with a disability should have choice and control over the supports they receive.
Key principle
The NDIS is about helping people pursue their goals, build independence, and participate in their community โ not just meeting basic needs.
Who can access the NDIS?
To be eligible for the NDIS you generally need to:
- Be under 65 years of age when you first apply
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder
- Have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to participate in everyday activities
- Require support now and in the future due to your disability
Not sure if you're eligible?
Contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or visit ndis.gov.au to check your eligibility.
How NDIS plans work
Your NDIS plan is a personalised document that outlines your goals and the funding available to help you achieve them.
Core Supports
Funding for day-to-day activities such as household tasks, community participation, transport, and personal care. Most of our services fall under Core Supports.
Capacity Building
Funding to help you build skills and independence over time โ including employment support, improved living arrangements, and learning new skills.
Capital Supports
Funding for assistive technology, equipment, home modifications, or specialist disability accommodation (SDA) that support your independence.
How is your plan managed?
NDIA Managed
The NDIA pays providers directly on your behalf. You can only use registered NDIS providers like VITALIX SUPPORT.
Plan Managed
A plan manager pays providers on your behalf. You can choose from both registered and some unregistered providers. We work with plan managers.
Self Managed
You manage the funding yourself and pay providers directly. You have the most flexibility in choosing providers and negotiating costs.
Frequently asked questions
Simply contact us to have a conversation about your needs. If we're a good fit, we'll prepare a Service Agreement that outlines exactly what supports you'll receive and at what cost. You can then notify your plan manager or the NDIS that you'd like to use us as a provider.
Absolutely. You always have the right to change providers. Under the NDIS, choice and control is fundamental. If you wish to stop using our services, simply provide notice as outlined in your Service Agreement and we will work with you to ensure a smooth transition.
We are based in Edmondson Park and primarily serve participants across South-West Sydney, including suburbs such as Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden, Fairfield, Bankstown, and surrounding areas. Contact us to discuss whether we can support you in your location.
Our services are priced in line with the NDIS Price Guide and Support Catalogue. This means the rates are set by the NDIS and you'll never be charged more than the published price limits. We'll always be transparent about costs before any support begins.
We take all feedback seriously. You can raise a concern directly with us at any time โ we have a formal complaints process and will work to resolve issues promptly and fairly. You also always have the right to contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission on 1800 035 544.
We support participants aged 17 to 65 across a range of disability types, including Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), Autism, Intellectual Disability, Mental Health, Physical Disability, and Spinal Cord Injury. We do not currently provide support for participants requiring ventilator-dependent care or Aged Care services.
